Alternative Valentine’s

Two Valentine’s-themed posts in a row?! Ick. Sorrynotsorry folks; I’m loving the idea of Valentine’s this year. I was always massively cynical about it in the past, but since using it as an excuse this year to wildly treat myself, I’m all over it.

Using the treat yo’self method as an excuse, I was recently asked by Debenhams to come up with a Valentine’s wishlist with some items from their gifts for her range. I’m sure this is going to come as no surprise to regular readers of this blog but, well… I’m not really your average kinda gal. Standard Valentine’s treats of chocolates, prosecco and red rose petals don’t really float my boat. I’m more into cheap lagers, pizza and action films for a romantic night in.

To be honest, I was a little nervous at first when flicking through and seeing pages of beautiful silky underwear and gorgeous bottles of perfume, and wondering how I was going to pen this post about having an alternative take on Valentine’s. Our usual Valentine’s plan is predictably cheese-related – we like to spend around £20 on fromages, which usually involves baking a camembert and eating the whole lot with a giant stick of crusty French bread. Heaven.

Sticking with the cooking theme, I perused Debenhams kitchen gadgets section and that’s when it hit me – why not dedicate this Valentine’s to my one true love… caffeine?!

I picked out some bits from their gifts for her range and decided to treat myself rotten, with a beautiful Krups coffee mill so I can drink a proper brew in the morning, and the jazziest pair of Vans I have ever clapped eyes on, to replace my sad, broken Etnies. A gorgeously pink parcel arrived in the post with a few extra treats inside, and I spared no time in putting my beaut new coffee mill to good use.

I also treated myself to the last of Extract Coffee’s signature Movember brew, Strong Man Espresso, a blend of pecan pie, custard cream and sweet vanilla. Because I am a silly sausage I didn’t read the packet properly when it said to add milk, and I like my coffee as black as midnight on a moonless night. I think I’ll stick to Dr Strangelove next time.

Back to my lush new daps, and goodness me am I in love. I’ve been using them to brighten up my all-black outfits recently, and I forgot how comfy Vans are once you’ve got over the inevitable breaking-in period. Who knows, if I’m not too shy maybe I’ll do a li’l outfit post in them.

Despire feeling a little guilty about not getting Tom anything (ok, so I bought him a small box of chocolates and have made him several cups of delicious coffee) this treating-yourself-malarkey is something I can wholeheartedly throw myself behind, and doesn’t have to be restricted to high days and holidays…

What are you up to this Valentine’s?

This post was in collaboration with Debenhams. I was gifted items for the purpose of this review but all words and opinions are my own.
