For most people, last weekend was the final attempt to get all the festive shopping done before the big day; this week is for relaxing with the kids, getting those last minute plans together and wrapping up the presents.
But for a small minority of highly disorganised people (aka ME) comes the dawning realisation that Christmas is THIS BLOODY SATURDAY and it’s probably time to panic. What with the Post Office striking an’ all, last-minute internet shopping is out of the question – it’s time to get local.
Here I’ve compiled a handy gift guide of some of my favourite businesses doing awesome things in the Bristol area, whom you can visit this week in your panic-buying frenzy.
Extract Coffee Roasters
— Extract Coffee (@extractcoffee) December 19, 2016
Making sure Bristol gets its caffeine fix every morning are the fantastic Extract Coffee, whipping up exciting and experimental blends from their HQ in lovely St Werbs. These guys are still roasting and posting until tomorrow, so get those orders in quick!
🎅 ‘You know how excited kids get about the prospect of Santa arriving on Christmas day? That’s what I get like about this tea, its my favourite! The orange peel, almonds and spices make this tea the perfect festive drink.’ 🎄 > Big hearts from Amy for Christmas Cake! Words and 📷 @amyleecupoftea , tea lovers really must check out her blog!
Ok, so these guys aren’t exactly local (they hail from Bristol-by-the-sea, aka Brighton) but they definitely deserve a mention. Pop into Bluebird‘s heavenly tea shrine at the top of Park St and indulge in some of the wackiest tasting teas you have ever heard of. Coco pops tea, anyone?
The Bristol Cheesemonger
Opening hours for next week. Open for all your cheese needs. pic.twitter.com/u6KohC5eCg
— Bristol Cheesemonger (@bristol_cheese) December 17, 2016
Situated on hip-and-happening St Nicholas St, the Bristol Cheesemonger serves up slices of local, seasonal and specialist deliciousness to the fair people of this fine city. Visit them up until the end of this week for all your cheeseboard needs!
You know what this weekend is right? Last weekend before Christmas! Get your shopping bags ready and find us at the following markets this weekend: Saturday & Sunday: Harbourside Market Saturday: Westbury On Trym Christmas Fair Sunday: Bath Artisan Market #christmasideas #christmasmarkets #ActLocalSupportLocal #Bristol #giftset #craftpreserves
Whose dad doesn’t love chutney?! Created by spendidly-bearded chap Harry with his girlfriend Claire, Gingerbeard Preserves have been dishing up condiments since 2014. Jazz up your aforementioned cheeseboard with their drool-worthy Fig & Sour Cherry Christmas Chutney or Beer, Bacon and Chilli Jam. Yep, you read that last one correctly! Find a list of their stockists here.
These champions of Bristol real ale have a brewery tap shop open from their home in St Philips, stocked with some of the finest ales known to humankind. Visit them from 12 til 10pm weekdays to stock up delicious festive tipples, and to pick up a present for the real ale lover in your life.
For those drinkers who prefer stronger stuff, the excellent Espensen Spirit offer up a range of deliciously flavoured gin and vodka, all from their home in St George. Their blueberry gin is to die for – and this is coming from someone who hates gin! You’d better be quick, mind, as you’ve only got until MIDNIGHT tonight to order.
To the Moon
— To The Moon (@tothemoonbris) December 20, 2016
Tucked away on Midland Road in Old Market is the charming To the Moon – one part bar, one part cafe and one part adorable shop championing Bristol independents. Pop in for a spot of stocking-filler shopping and have one of their amazing cocktails while you’re at it.
Leather Needle Thread
I would love nothing more than the chance to learn a new skill this Christmas. If your friend or loved one loves learning new things too, then book them a leatherwork workshop with Leather Needle Thread, where they can try their hand at making anything from a wee little coin purse to a beautifully crafted handbag. Take a look at dates for upcoming courses here.
Bristol Food Tour
Last but by no means least is the absolutely bloody fantastic Bristol Food Tour. Taking a lucky group of folk on a gastronomical walking tour of Bristol’s best culinary delights, it’s a must for any discerning foodie. Find them on Facebook here!
Now go forth… and panic buy!
This post was not sponsored in any way, I just like sharing the Bristol love.
